Viterbo

Viterbo is located about 30 kilometers south of Lake Bolsena at the SS2 (Via Cassia) in the direction of Rome. It is the administrative headquarter of the province of Viterbo, which includes the Lake Bolsena. With over 60.000 inhabitants, Viterbo is the largest city near Lake Bolsena. The picturesque historical city centre is one of the best preserved in middle Italy and a romantic walk through it is definitely worth a day trip. The most important sights in Viterbo are the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the Franciscan Church ( San Franchesco), where you can find the graves of Pope Clemens IV and Pope Hadrian V, and the Etruscan necropolis of Castel d‘Assso at the western periphery. Furthermore, the well preserved squares and their beautiful fountains are highlights, which can be visited during a trip to Viterbo.
